Last week I saw a story about African Americans assaulting white people for the fourth time. This time the story hit home literally, it was about 30 to 100 African American teens assaulting two reporters for The Virginian Pilot in Norfolk, I’m from Newport News. I saw this story on Fox News last week and then looked it up online. This story is a crazy, sad and odd story. That being sad at the time Fox News did their story on it wasn’t that big of a story, even in the Hampton Roads area, which became a separate issue.
Why such a push to show violence towards white people by African Americans? A month or so ago The Situation Room showed a clip of a white guy somewhere in Maryland getting beat up and stripped naked by some young African Americans. This clip still showed the WSHH logo for WorldStarHipHop.com. When did CNN need to fallback on Hip Hop site that always has fucked up clips on it as a place for source material? With CNN and Fox News hunting down news of African Americans assaulting white people does that mean there needs to be talks about why those attacks don’t make as much noise as when an African American is beaten or murdered by white men? Should these kinds of stories be magnified? Hell, should the stories of African American men being assaulted by white men even continue to get months of press in the news?
There are reasons why the stories Fox News and CNN are trying to push just aren’t news. Those reasons aren’t positive reasons at all in my opinion.
- African Americans are viewed as violent anyway. It’s a running joke the one show you can guarantee to see blacks starring in it the local news.
- Racial profiling is a debatable topic. As many people there are trying to downplay there are people totally against it and there are people equally all for it. Racial profiling and the violence towards men of color by white cops or wannabe cops is more news worthy. Those stories write themselves.
- The four stories I have come across the white people were in “the wrong part of town” and as much as we love to try to pretend there is no such thing as the wrong side of town there is and those people were there. You hear the reporters even asking why the white people were in that area. What that means is white people seeing that will not feel as threatened because unless they’re in those areas they’re safe. So it is a hard sell for a story that doesn’t take place in a general area like those flash mob stories a year or so ago. That is why those stories became news.
There is no excuse for what those African Americans did to any of the white people in any of the stories I’ve seen and read about, but those stories will never be bigger than two to three day push they’ve gotten. Another missing baby or rich white female will get more face time than any of these stories. The way I see it until a Black and or Hispanic cop pulls over a white male for no real reason at all and harassed him then beats him or kills him then goes to trail and is found not guilty, there isn’t a real story worthy of New Networks attention. It is just a sad fact that we like our racism dealing with violence to have those of color being the victim, if it is the other way around then it’s a local news story not something for CNN and Fox News to deal with.
