“My heart is broken for our country, for the hopes of our children, for the fights of those who came before us.
I cry at the thought that Black History, American History might be in vain.
This country has had great moments. God has shined His light upon us.
Today, I hope that Great Moments begin in peaceful & progressive conversation. I am willing to be a bridge. I don’t mind “These Stones”, if they allow me to be a voice for the voiceless.
I am here.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “Our lives begin to end, the day we become silent about what matters,”.
I am here, representing you, because this is what matters.”
– Chrisette Michele
That was the open letter to fans and Black people in general. There’s no denying that Michele’s words are sincere, it’s the recent past of Trump that makes any Black person that even remotely seems to be hearing him out look a like “coon”.
Let’s get beyond the whole “bridge” talk and get into that fact Chrisette Michele will be performing at Trump’s inauguration. What will she wear? What will she sing? Protesting from the sidelines mean nothing, the media will spin whatever happens into something they can control. If Michele uses this opportunity to do something significant no one would know anyway. She could fire a subtle shot letting the Trump administration know that Black people are watching and want, demand and deserve respect. Do I think she will just take the money and sing whatever Trump and his family wants, this is me thinking that Trump has no idea about Chrisette Michele’s catalog and just needed a Black female face to show up. The fact that she accepted the invite there isn’t the issue, what happens with the opportunity is. I’m all for a Beyoncé Superbowl Halftime controversy, that overshadows the night. Do I think this will happen? Not at all but I also don’t think her career is over. Fans will be mad for awhile and then move on. Trump is Trump, he has four years to either show his true colors or keep up the ignorance, that is unless it isn’t an act. People will have forgotten about this by the summer unless some diva wants to beef with her over Twitter and bring it up. We as Black people have to wait and see what happens the next day or Monday.
Everyone knew it was coming once Obama said a copy of his birth certificate was online for all to see. Trump had no choice but to end his pre-run witch hunt/circus act. Like I and anyone who really listened to the guy have said he had nothing pass his attacks on Obama going for him. Once that bump in the road was settled you rarely heard from Trump til now when he announced he wasn’t going to run even though he beloved he could win not just the Republican primaries but beat Obama as well.
What is the real underline to all this? The non issue hot button Trump chose to ride until the wheels fell off was put to rest quicker than anyone expected. And that may be the new move to battle the GOP, defuse all these non issues before they get out of hand. The republican in house bickering will also help. There is some insider debate about the evangelical issues verses the real issues like the economy. That kind of topic would have come up in a primary at some point on Trump. And with primaries being televised live and then critiqued, broken down and literally dissected word for word with fact checks Trump would have been exposed early.
Some want to say he dropped out because he doesn’t want his finances to be made public. That sounds good to help make it seems more Trump like. It even may be true, half true if you ask me. No this whole side show was cute for a minute, he has regained some spotlight and has chose to continue on with his not as good as it used to be show The Apprentice on NBC. This may have been a publicity stunt to get attention and then announce he’s not going to run and will continue with his show, he’s guaranteed a strong first few weeks in the ratings now for sure. Just another strange turn of events within the GOP I guess.
So Wednesday President Obama addressed something that has been part of the anti Obama conspiracy since he was the Democratic Presidential candidate in 08’. That issue was him not being born inAmerica. Well that thought never left a lot of peoples minds, and even back in 08’ it wasn’t much of a big deal just another added reason why people didn’t like the guy. There was even some solider who said he wasn’t going to go toAfghanistanorIraqbecause he wanted proof the Obama was born inAmerica. That story lasted as long as it took you to read that sentence. The reason the birth of Obama has become such a big deal is due largely to Donald Trump, the news media and the fact next year is an election year.
Donald Trump has made, well HAD made this his go to issue and doesn’t have much pass riding the wave of Obama bashing to speak about. It’s sad that he’s doing well in the poles and hasn’t presented one answer to any ofAmericasreal problems, is hatred for Obama that powerful? His entire focus has been about the birth certificate. He wanted the spotlight now he has it and now he needs to gives us more than just bashing the President. Even Karl Rove thought it was overkill to keep attacking the President from that angel, Karl Rove… If he’s not for this kind of smear campaign you know you have to stop. All Trump has done was help showcase where we are inAmerica, we’ve become an unapologetic racist country. We protest the building of any Masque anywhere in our country, we’re trying to come up with these ridiculous unlawful detainment tactics of Mexicans and up until we have heard Obama wasn’t born here inAmerica. We’ve totally stopped embracing diversity or was that always the case. Is having a black president with a, as I heard from someone say once, non evangelic name the straw that broke the camels back? We know there are people in this country that are against Obama for no other reason than because he’s black. For Trump to pander to that crowd does nothing but help separate a country that is already pretty much openly divided. The craziest thing is since Obama has been president the face of the GOP have all been extremist in some cases, in 09’ Rush Limbaugh was the face of the conservative movement, last year it was Palin and the whole Tea Party express, this year it’s Trump who has become the face of what many republicans aren’t willing to say out loud is pure racism. Where all this coming from is the bigger question? Are people so fueled by fear and racism that anyone willing to promote is can be the voice for a party and in a larger view a group of citizens inAmerica?
An even bigger concern is the news media, they’ve totally blew the story up. I get it Trump is the “it” guy right now but to continue to let him fuel that flame and then help him keep it burning was out of line. I’m glad Obama took the news media to task for their hand in all this becoming bigger than it needed to be. It shows that where there is a story the news will help sell it at any cost, George Stephanopoulos even showed a copy of the birth certificate on show a couple of Sundays ago and this still is an issue? Why? With all the things that need to be reported this and the royal wedding seem to take center stage, when did our news media become Entertainment Tonight? I’m all for Trump having issues with Obama on his policies but calling him un-American is totally over the top. Instead of helping keep this talk alive the news media should have simply walked away or did what they chose to do after Obama addressed the birth certificate issue and that was make Trump talk politics. Now that this issue is off the table what does Trump have to say about politics?
