Is police brutality only brutality when you’re white

In Orange County California there has been outrage since July 5th when officers of the Fullerton Police Department beat Kelly Thomas to death.  Thomas was a mentality ill homeless man. The outrage has those inOrangeCountylooking to recall some city council members demanding that the police chief step down. There is an investigation going on as to what happened the night Thomas was beaten.

I’m sure since it is Orange Country and the victim was white some real justice will happen, yes I know that sounds fucked up to even think that way, but our track record in this country suggests that I may be right. As an African American I know other African Americans, Latino and just Black people from other counties get beat down or shot for the same reasons the police are claiming they had an altercation with Thomas, someone called about a man trying to break into cars. It would again be easy to make this an Orange County thing as they seem to be looking out for the safety of other homeless people in the area after this incident. I mean if something happened like that here in Kansas Citythe city would not be too concerned about the homeless population here.  It just seems odd because things happen to homeless people white and black all the time across the country and now there’s an uproar? Is it because Thomas was mentality ill or because he was a young, 37, white man?

As a country we do have a track record of being appalled when something bad happens to those with mental problems so it’s easy to go that route with it. I know it’s not out of wanting justice for someone was beaten to death by the police, that happens all the time. You go online to any local newspaper site and see a similar story all over the country every year. The outrage isn’t the same, most of the time it is news for a week and the local area moves on. What happened to Thomas has become a national story. Is this simply a case of slow news and a story became bigger like the blonde missing in Aruba and the Casey Anthony case? I won’t be surprised if those officers who beat Thomas to death go to trail and get convicted. I will be glad justice was served but equally as disappointed because when police officers do anything to people of color nothing happens and they go on with life and keep their jobs. This story makes me wonder how this story would have played out if Thomas was a African American mentally ill man in Orange County, would there still be such outrage?

Who is really following Sarah Palin?

Once again we see, with our nation in crisis, President Obama stands by and does idly nothing while an injustice is committed here in this glorious nation of ours. It’s almost strange that the president has not yet made one statement on the issue of the death of young Caylee Anthony. Why the strange silence, Mr. President?

While reading a blog it was noted that Palin had that that comment on her facebook page. Now keeping your hand in pop, in the moment, current affairs is cool but to throw jabs at the president for not addressing this silly shit is dumb. Yes the Casey Anthony aftermath shock and outcry is dumb. Like I said yesterday locally you can find people doing the worst shit that aren’t making it national headlines, get over it.

I’m not sure what anyone of the republican presidential hopefuls are getting out of even mentioning the verdict? That you’re in tuned with those who have nothing else better to do with their time than to cry over a case they have no real attachment to? If the president of the United States was to even have a comment about this, especially Obama, we’d be wondering why he isn’t doing something more constructive with his time. It’s easy for Palin and the other GOP talking heads to sit around and tweet, facebook update and make television appearances about the verdict, their job is to be in the media for all it’s worth so you know who they are. I would be pissed if any president made a statement about the verdict. I’m not a fan of the Super Bowl, Final Four, BCS predictions that the media asks the President. I’m not cool with winning teams of college and major sports going to the White House or the opening pitch shit either. When I see or hear old clips of Reagan quoting pop culture references of his time I get this weird nauseating feeling. The president shouldn’t have shit to say about any case unless it deals with our country. Yes to speak on the trail of Jared Lee Loughner is a given but Casey Anthony? Why not hire a staff of people to find fucked up cases where the defendant was found not guilty and make a fuss everyday? Anyone wanting to hear what the president has to say about this is looking for a fight. Like I said before if he had spoken out before Palin gave a half ass jab she and other would be wondering why is he even speaking on the subject, plus whatever he says won’t be good enough anyway.

I’m concern more about those who liked the comment by Palin really. 12, 429 people liked it?  What could be in their minds? Are people so against the man (Obama) that no one even gave a fuck about how silly her comment was and the fact that she flipped it on Obama like he should say something? Palin is going to have her loyal followers like Bush did and Obama does, yes some people are truly behind Obama hoping for the best. I’m not upset about that, the fact Palin comment became a story in itself is what throws me off. Now she’s getting her comment out to those who don’t follow her and aren’t really into her games. Now her comment can in a smaller way become a discussion in itself. It’s happened already I saw 5 blogs where her comment along with others is a stand alone topic. Maybe she was looking for attention and those who liked it just like anything she says. I’ve been to her facebook page, she’s boring as fuck to me which is surprising the way the media follows her every step… Maybe I had the wrong page and I’m too lazy to put real effort into finding her more exciting page. That sounds good I will go with that reasoning for now. If this is how Palin plans on getting peoples attention and showing she’s in the fabric of what’s going on in America maybe should try daytime televison, I’m sure her ratings will be hard to beat. I can’t front I’d watch the show if it was to happen just see what she’d do next.

Casey Anthony Not Guilty, like you didn’t know it would happen

I knew this was going to happen, no really I did. Something told me not to look at the verdict, go on about your daily life and finish out what was a bad day for me yesterday. I just felt she was going to get off for some reason.

Look, the decision yesterday could have easily been a race issue BUT O.J. got a not guilty verdict for murder.Kobe got off for rape, R. Kelly and Michael Jackson got off for alleged sex acts with underage partners, so race wasn’t an issue. How about money? Well Phil Spector and the late Jack Kevorkian were found guilty and I’m sure they both had more money Than Casey Anthony. No, what happened here is what happens all the time with big profile cases, the jury finds the defended not guilty. The only person I can think of off the top of my head that this high profile case theory didn’t work for was Scott Peterson. This case went from being barely a blip on the news world radar to becoming something had the internet buzzing for about an hour or so yesterday.

Do I think Casey Anthony murdered her then 2 year old daughter? Hell yes. My reasoning may be different the next persons though. I remember when the news broke and yes Nancy Grace was really following this for 3 years, I want to say 4 because I’m sure the story broke in 07’ (yeah I’m not tracking that info down at all, call me lazy like I care). I do remember the first suspect was a Spanish lady, who was a suspect only by name not by eye witnesses account, just a name Anthony gave to the police, for a week or so no one could find. Once they caught up with the lady she easily was off the hook since she was out of town during the time of the then kidnapping/missing child case. Then Anthony’s boyfriend was a quick suspect. It soon shifted from kidnapping to murder and there was evidence in the trunk of Anthony’s car. I remember her boyfriend was for a brief moment an accomplice of then murder. I remember her parents having her back completely and then one visit too many things changed within the family. I remember the bounty hunters, pro bono detectives and all the so called “specialists” that made the rounds on Nancy Graces’ show. So yeah, I can remember the mood switching from the search for a missing child to the search for the corpse of that child. I remember the how this whole Caylee Anthony story started out as nothing more than an irresponsible mother leaving her child with a stranger to go out and party.

Again this trail just became bigger than it should have been thanks to Nancy Grace in what I like to believe started out as a regular story piece of again an irresponsible mother that turned into to so much more once the Spanish lady was no longer a suspect. From that point I figure the ratings went up for Grace and this was something that touched at her heart, any mothers heart from the tweets and facebook updates I’ve seen, so she ran with this story. For 3 years Nancy Grace had kept viewers up to date with this case. More people followed because CNN really put it in people’s faces and from there more media outlets jumped on it. And again like most high profile cases the defendant walks away, just look at what happened with the Jonbenet Ramsey case.

That really is what happened, the case was a can’t lose case for the prosecution. Right now as you read this there are convicted parents with much less evidence against them than what Anthony had thrown at her. Some parents by the rule of averages may really be innocent but the thought of a parent hurting let alone killing their child is again just a no win situation for the accused parent. If this was something only those in the localFloridaarea knew about she’d be doing time right now. Really her trail would have already taken place, it’s been 3 years, she should be on her second year in prison NOW. No matter how good your lawyer is and how much money you have, a parent being accused of hurting their child will be found guilty over 90% that’s a harsh fact. This time however the fact is she (Anthony) got off, got away with murder literally. Not because the facts against her were weak but because the jury cracked under pressure or something, who knows? Like I said look at our recent track record of major cases of any sort and the conviction rate is just about 10%. So the lesson is if you do a crime hope some T.V. personality takes special interest in it and blows your case up much bigger than it needs to be, you may just be sitting at home watching that television personality and their panel of specialists play Monday quarterback talking about why you’re free.
